Bachata is a social dance originating from the Dominican Republic, danced to the genre of bachata music. In this class, you will learn the fundamentals of both salsa and bachata — footwork, body movement, and musicality — giving you a well-rounded foundation in two of the most popular Latin social dances in the world. These are dances that anyone can learn. If you know how to walk, you can learn salsa and bachata. Whether you're completely new to these styles or want to brush up on your foundations, this is the perfect workshop for you. This class will last 2–3 hours. In the first hour, we will cover basic salsa footwork, timing, and body movement, including the essential on1 timing structure. In the second hour, we shift to bachata — exploring its distinctive footwork, body rolls, and musicality. In the final hour, you will learn a solo combination for each dance and how to dance with a partner in both styles. You do not need a partner to attend this class, as traditional classes involve rotating partners. This not only gives every person the opportunity to dance with a partner, but also allows you to experience how each individual is unique to dance with. This will be a fun, warm, and safe space for dancers of all levels and experiences to learn in.
