Non-Profit Executive Director (Part-Time)

The Executive Director is responsible for the overall leadership and management of Volunteers for Literacy of Crawford County (dba Crawford County Volunteers for Literacy), overseeing all operations, programs, and fundraising activities to achieve the organization's mission and strategic goals. While maintaining strong financial stability and community engagement, the Executive Director will oversee the functioning of CCVL and is primarily responsible for the day-to-day activities. The Executive Director will lead fundraising efforts, ensure sustainable growth, and build strong relationships with key stakeholders. 

Leadership and Strategy: 
• Serving as an economic & social advocate for CCVL and literacy efforts in Crawford County. 
• Represent CCVL in all meetings, activities and appropriate initiatives within the state.   
• Provide leadership, guidance, and mentorship to staff and volunteers, fostering a positive, inclusive, and collaborative work environment. 
• Ensure alignment of CCVL’s activities with its mission, vision, and values. Maintain close contact with the President of CCVL Board of Directors, especially on terms which could significantly impact / enhance the mission of the CCVL. 
 Communicating whether in writing or by telephone with other members of the CCVL Board of Directors; and making a formal report on all activities at each CCVL Board Meeting. 

Program and Service Oversight: 
• Oversee the planning, implementation, and evaluation of literacy programs, ensuring they meet community needs and programmatic goals. 
• Monitor and assess program effectiveness, making data-driven recommendations for improvements and growth. 
• Build and maintain strong relationships with local schools, libraries, social service organizations, and other community partners to expand access to literacy services. 
• Representing CCVL at conferences related to literacy issues, and taking responsibility to disseminate information to tutors and other appropriate parties. Be an advocate for students or tutors if difficulties arise. 

Fundraising and Financial Management: 
• Develop and implement a comprehensive fundraising strategy to ensure the financial stability and sustainability of CCVL. 
• Identify and cultivate relationships with donors, foundations, corporate sponsors, and grant making organizations.  • Manage the organization’s budget, ensuring efficient allocation of resources to meet program and operational needs. 
• Ensure compliance with financial policies, including timely preparation of financial reports and maintaining accurate financial records.

Advocacy and Public Relations: 
• Advocate for literacy-related policies and initiatives at the local, state, and national levels.
• Build and maintain relationships with local media to promote CCVL’s work and raise awareness about literacy issues.   
• Develop and oversee communications strategies, including website content, social media, newsletters, and other promotional materials. 
• Lead community engagement and involvement within the Crawford County served communities. 

Education and Experience: 
• Bachelor’s Degree (Education, Non-Profit Management, or Business Administration) preferred but not required. 
• Direct experience in nonprofit, community-based organizations preferred. Experience as a tutor is preferred. 
• Proven experience in fundraising, grant writing, and financial management.
• Strong knowledge of literacy development programs and strategies is highly desirable.

• Experience working with diverse populations and a passion for literacy advocacy. 
• Ability to build and maintain relationships with a wide range of stakeholders, including donors, volunteers, community organizations, and government agencies. 

Additional Requirements: 
• Ability to work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends, as required. 
• Occasional travel within the local community and to meetings or conferences. 

Compensation is competitive and based on experience and qualifications. Executive Director Position is Part-Time.
