Voted Best of River Valley’s “Top Public School System” for three consecutive years, the Van Buren School District (VBSD) has proudly earned its reputation as a regional leader in education.

VBSD is home to more than 5,500 students, all with unique abilities, passions, and needs. Our goal is to provide an environment in which children can learn, thrive, and reach their fullest potential. At every level, students have opportunities for hands-on learning, such as gardening, STEM, and fine arts programming. Our reputation for excellence extends to the classroom, field, and beyond. Students also have access to technology and vast course options, designed to ready them for the next step in their journey.

The Pointer Greens Aquaponics Garden inspires hands-on learning, while supplying VBSD cafeterias with organic lettuce, herbs, & fresh fish.
Big Dog's Grill serves up delicious & nutritious food truck fare at schools, Pointer games, local events, & the free summer meals program.
The Pointer Marching Band has captured five state titles over the past decade & is known for its professional level performances.
VBSD's Choral Program offers students the opportunity to perform & hone their skills. Many students annually earn All-Region & State honors.
The award-winning Van Buren High School Theatre program is known for its elaborate stage productions featuring talented student thespians.
As part of VBSD's vibrant arts curriculum, all K-5 students have the opportunity to showcase creations in the annual Elementary Art Show.
Safety is the District’s top priority. VBSD was one of the first in the state to employ a full-time School Resource Officer at every campus.
VBSD's Boys Wrestling has won four consecutive state championships. The program has also earned many team, individual, & coaching titles.
Each year, numerous Pointer student athletes sign national letters of intent to further their education & athletic careers at the collegiate level.
Fifth Grade Camp is a cherished VBSD tradition & a memorable milestone for VBSD students. Students take part in outdoor learning, team-building activities, & spend time with friends.
VBSD benefits from the support of strong Pointer Partners, including booster programs, PTAs, & area businesses.
JROTC students learn more than just drills—they gain valuable life skills that will benefit them both as soldiers & civilians.
IMPACT helps VBSD families in need by providing groceries to students over extended breaks. School groups often help collect donations.
Since its inception, the VBSD Education Foundation has awarded over 800 grants totaling a more than $1.26 million investment in our schools.
Funded through JUA grants totaling more than $714,000, District walking trails & fitness stations encourage community wellness & connection.
VBSD works in collaboration with the Van Buren Chamber of Commerce on a number of workforce readiness and educator recognition initiatives.
